2005 Awards to Professors Nambisan, Venkat, Boehm!

Congratulations to CoE Civil Engineering Professor Shashi S. Nambisan for winning the Harry Reid Silver State Research Award for 2005! He will receive his award and recognition on April 30, 2005 at the UNLV Foundations Annual Dinner. The Harry Reid Silver State Research Award was created in 2001 by UNLV President Carol C. Harter to honor the significant contributions of Senator Reid to research at UNLV. The award is funded by a grant from the UNLV Foundation. The winner will receive a $10,000 stipend and a medal. The award is open to full-time faculty members who are engaged in significant research that meets at least one of three criteria:

• Directly and positively affects the economic growth and development of Nevada;
• Addresses a pressing social need in the community;
• Demonstrably advances significant scholarship in an academic field of knowledge.

In addition, the Engineering Honor Society (Tau Beta Pi) presented Professor of the Year Awards (April 2005) to Mechanical Engineering: Professor Bob Boehm, Electrical & Computer Engineering Professor Rama Venkat, and Civil & Environmental Engineering Professor Shashi Nambisan.
